Welcome.
My name is Monèle, but my close friends often call me Mo.
I'm a self-taught Oil Painter and Mixed Media Fine Artist, born and raised in the beautiful Manitoba Canada.
I'm known best for my ethereal fantasy forests, whimsical dreamscapes, and custom family trees.
It has always been a great interest and passion of mine to create artworks of wonder and otherworldly essence, like an enchanting dream; finding light within the darkness of the deeply spiritual and the subconscious. My artwork is for all those who find Faith, beauty, and a certain mysticism within the chaos of life's storms and our own individual journeys.
I spent most of my professional life working in sales. It wasn't until one of my family members received a life-altering diagnosis a few years ago, that I began to take a step back and really think about life and how we choose to spend it; or more specifically, choosing to pursue our callings and finding true purpose in our work. This is when the artist in me that had been buried and neglected for years, finally began to find a voice once again; this time, taking deep roots in my renewed Faith and spirituality, and a core need for attunement in my life.
I began to rediscover the little girl inside me that always saw the magic and mystery in everything; the young woman who was always creating. I finally realized that becoming a more fulfilled version of myself started by pursuing my true interests and passions authentically once again.
Inside my little home studio, you’ll find me breaking old patterns of stagnancy and perfectionism with open windows, loud music, burning incense or candles, pinning sketches and bits of inspiration to my walls, and occasionally dancing in-between painting stages; all to keep movement alive and the creative energy flowing.
And when I'm not at home working in my studio, you'll likely find me out travelling or hiking with the love of my life, visiting with family and friends, playing with miscellaneous photography and videography projects, or lounging at the cabin on lake time; drawing inspiration from all the little bits of this colorful life.
Artist’s Statement
My artworks are heavily influenced by the realm of dreams ~ both subconscious and lucid ~ and from the trees, woodlands, mountains and marshlands of my home in Canada. Oils are my ultimate muse; the perfect transient medium for my various layers, long fluid strokes, and well-blended brushwork techniques. Through experimentation I have found that oils by far create the loveliest glows, gradients, and soft-light effects, perfect for my ethereal and dreamlike settings. Layer by layer, the light and colors grow in vibrancy and texture, creating depth to the flora of each scene. I focus on the use of bold colors to evoke the strong emotions I want to convey, elements of glowing light to symbolize hope and Faith, and deep shadows for a sense of intrigue; inviting my viewers and collectors to step into a world that is both beautifully familiar, and yet mysteriously unknown.
